Coyote Hills Hike

Went for a short hike around Coyote hills regional park. Its a nice park with some good views of the Bay. The weather was great for hiking, Sun was out with occasional cloud cover and a bay breeze to keep you cool. There were clouds over  San Francisco so visibility to the North was limited.

Over all we did about 8 miles. Here are the details recorded from my tracks:

Total Distance: 10.83 km (6.7 mi)
Total Time: 2:09:31
Moving Time: 1:51:33
Average Speed: 5.02 km/h (3.1 mi/h)
Average Moving Speed: 5.83 km/h (3.6 mi/h)
Max Speed: 9.65 km/h (6.0 mi/h)
Min Elevation: -35 m (-115 ft)
Max Elevation: 55 m (180 ft)
Elevation Gain: 278 m (913 ft)

The red line on the map is the walk in. If you don't want to pay $5 for parking you can park for free at the end of the road and walk about 1.5 miles in.

Greenday at Shoreline

Got the chance to see Greenday at shoreline this past Saturday. Thought I'd take a second to post the set list.

I thought the show was pretty good. The crowd didn't seem to be as into it as I thought they'd be. Shoreline is a big outdoor amphitheater so I think people had problems seeing. There weren't any jumbotron type screens around so I imagine if you were out on the lawn the people on stage looked like tiny little ants.

Hearst Castle

Details/Pictures to come later. This is just a place holder.

In short:

  • Very nice digs
  • Want both pools
  • Tour is too restrictive (aka why no self-guided tour)
  • Why are they sucking up to a dead guy?
  • it was built OVER 50 YEARS AGO!
  • Changability of mind
  • Crazy stalkers

more to come later.

I want Mr. Heart's pool

Back from Hawaii

I recently had a nice long two week break between jobs so my wife asked me, "Would you like to go camping in Yosemite?"
I joking replied, "Why don't we go camping in Hawaii...?"

To make the story short, we spend 4 nights camping on Anini Beach in Kauai. Definitely worth doing.
Here's the view from our tent:

And click here to go straight to the rest of the pictures.

For those who have never heard, there is one really interesting piece of trivia about Kauai.
In the 80s there were a couple big hurricanes that hit Hawaii. These hurricanes happened to free a bunch of chickens on Kauai. The chickens came from multiple sources, cock fighting, domestic chickens, and etc... Now since there are no natural predators on Kauai large enough to kill chickens, the crazy birds have flourished. You see them EVERYWHERE. They are in parking lots (including the KFC parking lot), parks, beaches, rain forests, it doesn't matter. There are chickens everywhere.

One last note about the chickens is that the roosters start to crow around 4am. So if you're camping bring ear plugs!

I'm out of Kauai Coffee :(
